S.P.Y presents 'Back to Basics' album release

Brazilian born Carlos Lima a.k.a S.P.Y is a producer who has a rich and significant history with Hospital. They saw him progress from rising talent to bonafide star in five short years before signing exclusively to the label in 2011. Since moving to London from Sao Paolo, S.P.Y hasn’t looked back. Initially drawn to the city for its music and culture, S.P.Y soon settled in amongst the vibrant Drum ‘n’ Bass scene here and found his home. With a background in DJ’ing stretching back to the age of 12, his skills behind the turntables were already in place. Passionate about a wide range of music, his diversity is one of the defining characteristics of his sound.

Developing his own brand of original dance-floor-friendly beats S.P.Y’s ability to deftly flip between the deep and dark to uplifting and explosive anthems often catches the listener off guard. S.P.Y has been flexing his considerable skills as a remixer with high-profile commissions for the likes of Deadmau5, Claude von Stroke, Zinc Ft. Ms Dynamite, Delilah as well as Hospital’s own London Elektricity.

Having signed his first solo 12″ release “Black Flag” and “Ghost Ship” to sister label Med School in 2006 and 2007 respectively, S.P.Y went on to release on a wide selection of labels such as Spearhead, Soul:R, Metalheadz and Shogun Audio, before returning to the NHS fray with the anthem “Turn The Lights Off” and grinding “Untold Future” in 2011. 2012 saw the release of S.P.Y’s debut solo album “What the Future Holds” which was received with unanimous praise and appreciation from across the board. Featuring legendary vocalists such as Diane Charlemagne and Ian Shaw, the album traverses a wide range of sounds – from tough, techy nuggets through to vocal-led beauties and minimal rollers.

And now S.P.Y goes ‘Back To Basics’ on his second album which has just been released and takes us deeper, darker and further underground with an uncompromising selection. The recent ‘Back To Basics’ sampler EP already introduced a new edge to his sound, and having tested these tracks in his DJ sets over recent months, S.P.Y has fine-tuned their mix-downs and structures for maximum dance-floor impact. S.P.Y keeps it international with a lot of collaborations on this album: Total Science, Diane Charlemagne, Canadians Rene Lavice & Grimm, Mancunian DRS and Jamaican Suku of Ward 21 all bring their unique talents to the table.
